The 2004 tsunami in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, disabled even basic healthcare provision. The province’s largest referral hospital, Rumah Sakit Umum Dr. Zainal Abidin (RSUZA), was among the many facilities that were severely damaged. Mediconsult was chosen by KfW (German Development Bank) for its reconstruction because of its substantial track record in medical equipment and supply management. The unique circumstances created challenges of a scope and magnitude without precedent, in every aspect of the project planning.
