OVERVIEW

The Government of Germany through KfW Development Bank extends a credit facility of 500 million Euro to the Republic of Iraq under the ‘German Credit Facility for the Return of IDPs in Iraq’ (GCFI) programme. Through this platform, the Iraqi Government intends to rehabilitate its nation’s health services infrastructure. In support of plans to rehabilitate/expand and continue stalled progress on existing health facilities, Mediconsult was sub-contracted by EPOS Health Management, Germany for its industry-specific expertise in health systems and services, and medical equipment and maintenance planning.

As part of the team, Mediconsult was tasked to (1) conduct a detailed feasibility study (situation analysis and needs assessment for service delivery enhancement); and (2) provide inputs in development of an investment plan for activities underlying the proposed rehabilitation work. The purpose of these objectives is to effectively and efficiently address the epidemiological needs of the Iraqi population, through rehabilitating the multi-disciplinary medical centre in Baghdad—the Nursing Home Special Hospital (NHSH). Viability of restarting stalled work in the two other hospitals, Haditha Hospital and Al Dour Hospital, is also assessed.
